The Fourth of July Signals the Time to Start Planning Your Holiday Dream Kitchen Remodeling Project!
Now is the time to start the planning stages of your kitchen remodel if you would like it done for the holidays! Especially in 2020, with the pandemic leaving people working from or otherwise stuck at home. Everyone has had ample time with the same view of the same house for months now and the remodeling wheels are turning. Contractors are already lining up interior work for the fall and winter! Below are 3 considerations for getting your kitchen remodel done before the holidays.
Schedule a design consultation. Sometimes coming together with a Designer on the perfect layout for your new kitchen can take time, a few revisions, and changes to make sure that you are getting what you want without blowing the budget. If you do not have a budget in mind yet or are not sure what the project might cost, getting an estimate now will help you decide if this is a project you can take on this year or save up to complete next year. Waiting to long to complete this crucial step could place your project later on the contractor’s schedule that you might like.
Be conscious of product lead times. Cabinets have a very wide range of lead times. If your plan is to purchase cabinets off the shelf at your local home improvement store, then you may only need a week or so to purchase and schedule delivery. If you are looking for custom or semi-custom cabinetry, expect to wait 4-6 weeks or more for cabinets to arrive. Installation time will vary depending on the extent of your project. If you are not changing your existing layout, the project will progress more quickly than if you are removing walls and moving mechanical systems. Countertop template, fabrication and installation can easily take another 1-4 weeks. 4-6 weeks in the construction phase of a kitchen remodel is not unusual.
Get on the contractor’s list now. If you really have your heart set on a kitchen remodel for the holidays, let your contractor know now. The best contractors are often booked months in advance. Never settle for the contractor who is available when you could plan ahead and get the contractor that you want.
